Announcing The Australian/New Zealand Tour 2012!

Apr 4

In Tours, Travels at 5:13pm

Come May, we are taking a huge leap through the looking glass and going to the magical land of Oz and New Zealand. Many thanks to the great folks at Mentem and Nikon Australia who have been laboring tirelessly to pull this together. Only been down under once before, to shoot the 2000 Olympiad for Time magazine, and it was wonderful, but the whole country was seized by Olympic fever. Visiting now, to multiple cities, during “normal” times, will be vastly different but equally wonderful, I suspect. And, of course, this time, we’ll be teaching and demonstrating all manner of lighting techniques and approaches, doing workshops and seminars. Drew’s coming along from our studio, and we’ll be lugging lots of gear to work and demonstrate with. All told, looking to be an amazing month.

The Olympiad was terrific. Didn’t hear a bad word for the entire games, except from my editors. It was an Olympics of great grandeur and scale….

Of surprising and beautiful runners…

And equally surprising victors…

And elated medal winners.

So, now we go back to this amazing continent. I personally can’t wait. Oz has magic, right? It’s so often the reply you get when you ask someone, “Where in the world would you most like to go?” And New Zealand! Holy smoke, never been, always wanted to go. I’m hoping to meet Gandalf.

We’ll be doing stops in Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Auckland. In between, doing some shooting for the Tourism Australia and, very importantly, auctioning prints and attending a ball to raise money for the non-profit Miracle Babies Foundation.

Can’t wait for May. Hit this link for all tour info, location and dates! More tk…

G’Day Joe!

Cant wait to have you here in Oz Joe – if you want a tour of Sydney, of probably the most picturesque city in the world, shout out!

I agree with Morning Road,
Please leave Auckland once you have done your business stuff and see the real New Zealand – anything south of there! You won’t see the beauty of the place and people until you go south. Just Saying…

Please visit the rest of New Zealand – not just Auckland! – Please!

My mate and I just got tickets to the Melbourne afternoon session and keynote address. We’re flying over from a little state called Tasmania, you should check it out if you get time – some of the best scenery and conservation areas in the world!

Be sure to make time for a heli-tour of the NZ Southern Alps, its one of those life experiences you’ll never forget. Thanks for making the time to share your experience in NZ. I’ll be hiding the crowd, enjoying every minute.

That’s great news, Joe… yeah, don’t forget to visit the beautiful South Island! I’m based in North Canterbury, approx. 30km north of Christchurch… I’d be interested in attending one of your workshops! :-)

Booked!

Thanks for making the trek! Looking forward to it immensely.
(I was trying to think of an Aussie cliche, but all I have is something about shrimps and Barbie.)

Booked within 15 minutes of getting your email.
See you in Melbourne! Woohoo!
(cough cough, I feel a cold coming on… must skip work on Thursday…late next month)
And as an Aussie who loves his own country, NZ south island is pretty cool…

Joe,

It’s Aus not ‘Oz’ although that is how it’s pronounced :)

Maybe you can shoot a few of our politicians while you are here.

Good you ya Joe. I’ve booked my tickets to Sydney. I’ve been reading your blog for years and you’ve moved me to tears quite a few times. Can’t wait to see you in person. xxx

paulmac says:

Oh and if you limited yourself to maybe just three or four strobes, could you bring David Hobby with you too?

Donfer says:

Rory says:

I can’t believe you’re actually heading here.
Booked my space for the lecture and workshop in Auckland, and couldn’t be more thrilled at the prospect of finally meeting you and Drew. (My wife said I was acting like a teenage Justin Bieber fan last night!)
To reiterate a lot of the comments above, I hope you get time to experience the raw beauty of the rest of New Zealand. (And that’s not just the Pinot Noir)

Daniel says:

Booked in for 2 events at the Gold Coast.

Went to DLWS in Hawaii last year hoping to see you, but the whole Flashbus thing got in the way. This will make up for it though.

Looking forward to May!

Yay, wasn’t sure this day would ever come. Fully booked for all Melbourne events & loving husband guessed right away who would be looking after the kiddliewinks! Thrilled to finally be meeting you both, Joe and Drew, and look forward to buying you a Coopers or two.

I wish I could come with you back to my homeland (NZ) for a workshop but alas I’ll have to find one here in the US. :) It’s a land of beauty, I hope you get to see the rest of the country that’s where the real scenery is.
